Baby margay (Leopardus wiedii) in a hollow tree trunk with the remains of an avian meal (Pyrrhura frontalis, a little parrot) brought by its mother, São Joaquim National Park, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Photo: Luiz Guilherme Marins de Sá

While collecting information also about the small wild cats in the area, Luiz's Projeto Leão Baio focuses primarily on developing solutions to the problems of puma (Puma concolor) predation on livestock on ranches surrounding the National Park
Other
conservationists working on the critical problem of puma conservation in its
southernmost Brazilian range include longtime Cat Specialist Group member Peter
Crawshaw, whose camera trap captured this nightime image of a young male puma.
His study area in São Francisco de Paula, Rio Grande do Sul, was host
to the recent regional Cat SG/South American Cat Conservation Alliance meeting
- Status
and Conservation Needs of the Neotropical Felids
