THE CHINESE MOUNTAIN CAT (Felis bieti)

The Chinese mountain cat is one of the least known and rarest of the small cats. It is found only in China. The stuffed specimens above were photographed in 1990 at a Chinese taxidermist's.

Research into the status and ecology of this species is considered a high priority of the IUCN/SSC Cat Specialist Group. Thanks to CAT donors Laura and Tim Harris for helping fund these early studies of this rare species.
